Natural stone shows its splendor at Hardscape North America Awards
The Hardscape North America (HNA) Awards honor the top work in residential and commercial construction of outdoor living spaces, driveways and walkways – and natural stone appeared in several of this year’s winning projects.
This year, a record 165 projects entered 18 hardscape categories, including natural stone, brick, porcelain and concrete pavers. Projects built between November 1, 2015, and June 30, 2019. were eligible for entry into the competition.
The awards were announced during the Hardscape North America trade show in October at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Ky.
The HNA Awards are produced by the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute (ICPI) and endorsed by the National Concrete Masonry Association (NCMA) and Brick Industry Association (BIA). Belgard, iQ Power Tools and Keystone Hardscapes sponsored the 2019 awards program.
Designer Tim Benz and a crew from Evanston, Ill.-based Nature’s Perspective Landscaping, earned plaudits for their use of natural stone at a local residence adjacent to Lake Michigan. It's a curtain call for the location and the HNA Awards; Nature's Perspective received recognition in 2016 for the front driveway.
The long-time client called Benz in to provide an entertainment area next to the lake, and clean up damage left by semis bringing in materials for a beach-repair project.
Utilizing Chilton Stone from Valders Stone & Marble of Valders, Wis., the project includes a patio with firepit, spa, seat wall, outdoor shower and boat storage. Most of the patio is sand-set with close joints, which expand for the boat-storage area, facilitating drainage.
