How Can the Natural Stone Institute Help You?

Hear it Here!

In January I had the opportunity to accompany our board president Duane Naquin to an event which is specifically designed for board presidents (like Duane) and chief staff officers (like me)—the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) CEO Symposium. ASAE is the professional association that I and association executives from around the world value – it is the NSI for my profession.

During the event we discussed best practices used by many trade associations to lead their respective industries into the future. Duane also shared his vision to provide more opportunities for NSI to listen to the needs of the industry and get more members involved. The time together was valuable and something I cherish doing with our board president each year.

In the past few weeks I have had the opportunity to attend trade shows in the United States, Brazil, and India to learn how NSI can bring more value to our members. My thanks to the many stone professionals who have taken the time to share their business needs and discuss the NSI programs they most cherish.

IOne member recently told me that he could not imagine NOT being a member, because NSI is focused on many big picture initiatives which will make the industry a better place. I agree. However, we must continue to showcase how NSI helps our members:

· Connect with buyers and suppliers

· Streamline operations

· Access key information

· Keep employees safe

· Build a network of industry colleagues and key connections

· Get recognized

Membership is a great investment in your business and your people! My request to our members is to share this news with your industry friends. Tell them why you value membership. But also explore ways to get more out of your membership. For example, how can NSI help you get recognized? My answer:

· Utilize the rich content on the Use Natural Stone website on your social media platforms. It is a great way to promote both knowledge and your company.

· Strengthen your knowledge by attending webinars and studying our technical documents so that you can be recognized as a subject expert in your market.

· Set your company apart by earning certification to one of the NSI credentialling programs (Accreditation and the Natural Stone Sustainability Standard).

· Submit projects and people for consideration of our various awards programs. The exposure to your company is priceless. Remember: entries for the 2023 Pinnacle Awards and Industry Recognition Awards are due May 20!

· Display your NSI member logo in your office, on your vehicles, website, and in your exhibits at trade shows. Your clients will appreciate your commitment to making the industry a better place.

· Volunteer on a committee or become an NSI speaker – the recognition will help you build your network.

We will continue to help you get recognized! Finally, plan on joining us at Coverings in April. Our member reception (a great networking event) will be on Wednesday, April 19 at 5:30 p.m. in the North Concourse Foyer. We look forward to seeing you there!

My very best!

Jim
